WHAT IS THIS BLOG STUFF ALL ABOUT?

by Tony Briscombe on Nov.19, 2009, under Tony

I have been told to do a blog to communicate with customers and potential new clients… it’s the future I’m told. Personally I don’t know what’s wrong with the phone and client visits! Well never wanting to get in the way of other peoples enthusiasm for things, here we go with my first blog.

For anyone interested, in a few months I will give you my honest opinion on how effective this stuff is for new business, along with any mistakes I will surely make along the way.

Hopefully the website has already given you an idea of what we can provide here at Grafx, so I guess it is up to me now to explain my bit within the company, along with our master plan to become recognised as the only IT development company in the south west worth talking too!

OK, who am I?

Well I am the MD here at Grafx and I help other business owners and FD’s get to grips with what is important about IT within their own businesses. I try hard not to talk technical, and I focus as best I can on understanding what frustrates or holds back their company. Ideally I like to talk to company heads, as only they know where the business is going, and all too often they are not able to articulate with people within there company due to possible lack if IT knowledge or fear of upsetting someone.

When I set up Grafx back in 1989 there was no Internet, computers were expensive and slow and for many difficult to use. Obviously things are nothing like they were, but for many companies the way they think about IT has not changed. I guess this is where I come in!

For many SME’s the cost and fear of the unknown forced them into a position where their computer systems evolved without direction, leaving them with invoices and standing orders for things they did not understand or even know if they were needed. Contracts are paid religiously, new hardware purchased when told plus all those other little bills that seem to add up.

Sometimes it’s nice to tidy your desk, get a new piece of paper and write down what is important before starting your week… Well it always works for me and that’s how I try to look at new customers IT.

I look to build a development plan that may take three years to achieve; it does not matter, as long as we know where we are going.

Today hardware and software is comparatively cheap, speed and reliability should not be an issue and with the Internet there are some creative solutions to reduce capital spend and enhance the way you work.

If you are the owner or FD of a company with less than 50 people, then we should have a chat. If you are affording multiple servers, or even employing internal IT staff, then again I think you would find our simple approach to IT interesting!

I am always happy to talk on the phone, or if preferred I can pop into your offices.

End of first Blog and feel free to comment, I have broad shoulders!
